Chairperson of the College of Counseling and Psychology, Dr. Mary Anane Mensah has disclosed that it is possible for one to have more than one temperament unlike we have been made to believe.

According to her, a lot of people are judged based on the behavior they have always been known for, and once they see another kind of behavior they are referred to as hypocrites or pretending.

“When you see such in anyone they are not pretending or hypocrites. They are just exposing you to other temperaments of their you’ve probably not seen”.

She furthered that, the person exhibiting different behaviors only means the person has two temperaments and is not pretending.

In an interview with Rev Nyansa Boakwa on Happy 98.9FM’s NsemPii she said, “So when it happens this way the explanation is this, the person has more than one temperament so it is not like they are pretenders”.

The psychologist disclosed that it is very possible to have two or more temperaments and this is why they always take their clients through some processes to find out how many temperaments they have.

“So when we do the test we actually look at your temperament in three different areas. We talk about the area of inclusion which talks about how you interact with people at the social level”.

She further explained that there is also the area of control where they exercise their intellectual powers and what drives their decision making, power of choice and to what extent they would want to go to control people and to what extent they will allow people to control them.

“Then the third area is where we call the area of affection and this will affect your marriage relationship and other significant others including close friends, children, and people who really come close to you”.

She explained that any of these areas can be used by any individual and when this is seen, “It does not mean socially the person was pretending but rather who they are in inclusion”.

Dr. Mary advised people to not the various differences in order not to mistake a person’s temperament as pretentious.
