First government to government consular consultations to take place between Ghana and China

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MFARI), Ambassador Albert Yankey on Sunday July 21st,  led a high powered Government delegation to The Peoples Republic of China. The delegation would engage the Chinese Government for the first time in our 59 year old diplomatic relations on consular issues pertinent to the deepening and growth of the  relations between the two countries. Accompanying Ambassador Yankey will be senior officials from the MFARI, Land and Natural resources, National Minerals Commission, Land Commission, Scholarship Secretariat, Immigration and Customs.

Amongst others, the talks will seek ways to deepen the relationship between the two countries by addressing pertinent issues such as the comfort and safety of Ghanaians domiciled  in China and the increasing number of Ghanaian students in China, scholarships, their concerns, areas of study and the impact of their studies on our development amongst others. The meeting would also address current challenges in our consular relations such as illegal mining (galamsey) and other inappropriate conducts by Ghanaian nationals in China and Chinese nationals in Ghana. The meeting will take place on the 24th of July in Beijing, China.

The Chief Director expressed his appreciation to Ghana’s Ambassador in China, Ambassador Edward Boateng and his team for the effort in putting this meeting together and is optimistic that the outcomes will go a long way to advance the common aim of both countries to create prosperity for their people to live in harmony. Ambassador Yankey also stated that it was going to be a regular feature in the coming years.
