The Former Constituency deputy organizer of the NPP in the Awutu Senya West Constituency, Kojo Opei has been arrested for allegedly extorting money from individuals to recruit them into the security agencies.

According to reports, the 50 year old NPP executive member has extorted about 10 billion Ghana Cedis from over 60 persons under the pretext of recruiting them into police, military, fire and prison services.

Some of the victims who stormed the Bawjiase police station after the suspect was apprehended stated they were there to retrieve their monies.

Speaking to the media, one of the victim’s who said he had paid an initial GHC 7,000 to the suspect for his two children who wanted to enter into the security services revealed that the suspect told him that he works at the Flagstaff house and knows some dignitaries who can help.

“We are over 60 people whom he had extorted money from and the least of the money is GHC, 7,000. Some paid GHC 50, 000 and over”.

“I wanted to work in the prison service so someone recommended the suspect to me and my brother. We were highly optimistic that we will get it because the person who recommended him to us is already in the service”.

“We paid GHC 450, 000 but later we found out that the thing wasn’t real because he was still demanding additional money, one victim said.”

“After getting the money he travelled outside Ghana so reaching him was very difficult so when we heard that he has been arrested after he returned from abroad, we decided to come here for our money”.
