Ghana Boxing Authority President Peter Zwennes has taken a swipe at the government of Ghana for not paying attention to boxing.
According to Zwennes, government must pay more attention to boxing and stop the lip service to helping other sports.
He made this known on Tuesday night at the Kotoka International Airport following the arrival of newly crowned WBO World super bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe.
“It is time the Sports Ministry stopped paying lip service to helping the other sports. It is time the ministry translated its help in practical terms.
“Sitting here, I can tell you that Paul Dogboe (Isaac Dogboe’s trainer) and his team have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to get this far to bring this title.”
“If the Ministry, as usual, wants to take credit for the success of other individuals when we have not seen any concrete contribution, then they must sit up. So, if the Sports Minister is listening to me, I am saying it loud and clear.”
Dogboe became Ghana’s eighth world champion after stopping Jessie Magdaleno in round 11 last Saturday in Philadelphia.
Zwennes was at ringside in Philadelphia when Dogboe beat the hell out of the then champion.
