GCB Bank sponsors Mobile Technology for Development Conference

Coming on board as the first bank with a mobile money service in Ghana, GCB Bank has cemented its commitment to drive financial inclusion in Ghana by sponsoring the maiden edition of the Mobile Technology for Development Conference (MT4D) in Accra.

The conference which was opened on 10th March at the Kempinski Hotel is a flagship financial ecosystem gathering of banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, fintechs and all digital service providers in Ghana to network, dialogue and leverage insights and perspectives to drive Ghana’s financial inclusion agenda.

Expanding Offerings

In addressing financial inclusion enthusiasts from different industries, the Managing Director of GCB Bank, Mr. Ransford Sowah, shared and explained GCB Bank’s latest contribution to financial inclusion;

“Banking and telecommunications industry related businesses have been increasing dramatically in recent years. Our G-money is a model designed to expand our business offerings, future viability, making banking services convenient for customers and to meet the demand of the market. GCB has built the capacity and the financial prowess to seize the opportunities offered by the business environment to expand our Value Added Networks (VAN) services to areas unbanked”, he explained.

Commitment to Drive Financial Inclusion

G-Money, a mobile wallet service which allows both customers and potential customers of the Bank to store money- in the form of electronic value- on their phones to perform transactions. This service is part of GCB Bank’s commitment to drive financial inclusion as part of its strategic objectives.

Some of the invited speakers in attendance were the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Director of Payment Systems, Bank of Ghana, Dr. Setor Amedeku; CEO, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), Mr. Archie Hesse and CEO, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunication, Dr. Ken Ashigbey.

The conference was attended by all stakeholders in the mobile technology and financial technology space; these include, banks, telecommunication companies, mobile application developers, development agencies, electronic money users, policymakers and government agencies.
