The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a final warning to candidates sitting for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), urging them to uphold academic integrity and avoid all forms of examination malpractice.
Speaking at a press briefing, Acting Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, emphasized the Service’s commitment to ensuring a fair and credible examination process.
“Candidates are strongly advised not to rely on so-called ‘apor’ or any form of external assistance, as such help will not be available. Any attempt to engage in examination malpractice will attract severe sanctions, and we caution all students to refrain from such conduct.”
This year’s WASSCE sees a total of 461,640 candidates, 207,381 males and 254,259 females, taking part across 701 centres nationwide, representing a modest 0.2% increase from the 2024 figures.
Prof. Davis assured the public that all logistical preparations had been completed, with practical exams beginning today and written papers scheduled to follow later in the month.
“The examination will be conducted in approximately 701 centres across the country. As has been the norm, the Ghana Education Service will collaborate closely with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and relevant security agencies to ensure law and order throughout the examination period.”
He also issued a stern warning to invigilators and supervisors, stressing that any individual found aiding candidates in malpractice would face legal consequences.
“Let us all work together to ensure a smooth, fair, and credible examination process. We want to protect the integrity of our examinations, and that means holding everyone accountable.”
The GES has also confirmed that security arrangements have been intensified in high-risk areas to ensure the safety of candidates and staff. Additionally, GH¢15.8 million has been released to cover practical fees for science, vocational, and technical subjects.
As the exams commence today, Prof. Davis extended his congratulations to all candidates.
“We commend you for reaching this milestone. Prepare adequately, stay focused, and let your hard work speak for itself.”
