German football legend Lothar Matthaus says he is happy to have witnessed the abundance of talents in the country during his visit to the StarTimes Bundesliga Football School event held in Accra at the Lord’s Wembly Park Sukura.

The 1990 World Cup Winner shared his football experience, embarked on many activities with football fans and met key stakeholders from Ghanaian football.

He was accompanied by Bundesliga legends Sammy Kuffuor and Charles Kwabla Akunnor.

Speaking to the media in an interview, he said, “Ghana is a football country and what I saw when training with the kids, they like and love football. I saw many players with good qualities and they have to be taught to realize this potential. They have talent and passion for football and this is the root in making Ghana football better in the future”.

The former Bayern Munich player also advised young footballers in the country to improve their quality by training each day, “They have to improve every day and kick the ball each day. In doing so Ghana can replicate that performance they showed 10 years ago in the World Cup by playing against the best teams like Germany”.

He further said, government and the Football Association should play a key role in ensuring the development of young footballers in the country.

“It is unfair to compare European football to that of Africa due to the economy and infrastructure and it’s not fair to make this comparison between Africa and Europe”, he concluded.

The four-day program saw about 100 kids trained by both German and Ghanaian coaches as they were taken through drills and skills.
