Ghana card registration is for a political agenda – Ras Mubarak

The Minority in Parliament says it is not against the National Identification Authority’s NIA registration exercise to provide all Ghanaians an identifiable Ghana card.
However, what the Minority is asking for is for the NIA to appear before Parliament to answer some crucial questions that are still begging for answers.
Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, who spoke to Happy FM on Epa Hoa Daben show via a phone interview, posited that the NIA has failed on several occasions to appear before the House.
Ras Mubarak also said that Ghana card is a political agenda that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is embarking on. “Why are they starting the registration at the strongholds of the NDC, is it because they want to pile up numbers at the NPP strongholds? he asked.
He said the documents required by the Authority for registration for the Ghana Card cannot be met by all Ghanaians and therefore the need for such issues to be resolved before it goes ahead with the registration process.
Meanwhile, Former President John Dramani Mahama has said the identification criteria announced by the NIA for any Ghanaian who seeks to register for the card is irrational. A situation he describe will denationalize over 20 million Ghanaians.
Mahama also added that the NDC will fight in the interest of Ghanaians because the Ghana card will soon become “the single most important identification for every Ghanaian.”
The National Identification Authority (NIA) said it is accepting only passports or birth certificates as the mode of identification for the exercise.
Although some Ghanaians have raised concerns with the limited mode of identification, the NIA seems not be bothered with such concerns.
