The stage is set for Ghana to make history in global sports as the nation embarks on an ambitious journey to compete in American football at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States of America.

Dubbed “Road to LA 2028,” this groundbreaking initiative is spearheaded by African National Football League (NFL) players based in the United States in partnership with the BE AUTHENTIC and the Ghanaian American Football Federation (GAFF).

In line with this, a Ghana National Flag Football Team Tryout Camp has been scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the University of Ghana Rugby Park. The coaches include NFL players like Brian Asamoah, Jordan Addison and Aaron Jones – all of the Minnesota Vikings. Others include Paulson Adebo of the New York Giants, Jude Adjei Barimah, Joseph Addai, and Zygie Ansah, a former NFL player.

With American football set to debut as an Olympic sport, Ghana’s bid to make its mark is gaining momentum, drawing excitement from sports enthusiasts, policymakers, and the global football community.

For the first time in its sporting history, Ghana is positioning itself to enter the global arena of American football. Historically dominated by North America, the sport has witnessed increasing international appeal, with Ghana now at the forefront of Africa’s emerging football powerhouses.

The Road to LA 2028 initiative seeks to harness the raw athletic talent in Ghana, refine it through elite training programmes, and establish a formidable team capable of competing at the highest level.

The initiative is a comprehensive project designed to develop American football from the grassroots level while equipping local athletes with the skills, knowledge, and exposure necessary to compete on the Olympic stage.
“The vision is simple yet ambitious: to see Ghana take on the world in one of the fastest-growing sports and emerge as a force to be reckoned with,” said Brian Asamoah.

At the heart of this movement are nine Ghanaian-born NFL players who have made names for themselves in America. Having honed their skills in one of the world’s most competitive sports leagues, these players now give back to their homeland by mentoring, training, and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

Their involvement brings credibility and expertise to the initiative, ensuring that Ghana’s journey to LA 2028 is guided by individuals who have played at the highest level. They understand what it takes to excel in American football and are committed to bridging the gap between Ghanaian athletic talent and the rigorous demands of the Olympic stage.

Ghana has long been recognized for its athletics, football (soccer), and boxing prowess. Now, the nation stands at the cusp of an exciting new chapter in its sporting history.

The inclusion of American football in the Olympics represents a shift in global sports. Ghana’s proactive approach to embracing this change signals the country’s readiness to compete at an international level.
