WAEC to release 2025 BECE private candidate results today The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that results for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates will be released by the end of today, Friday, September 5. Speaking at a media briefing, WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, confirmed the release timeline and shared key statistics. “A total of 1,661 private candidates, 858 males and 803 females, registered for this year’s BECE. This marks a 19.49% increase compared to last year,” he stated. According to John Kapi, the provisional results for school candidates were released earlier on August 23, with 603,328 students participating from 20,395 schools. WAEC noted a 5.99% rise in school candidate numbers. Kapi also addressed examination integrity, saying, “Candidates who infringed on the rules governing the conduct of the examination were appropriately sanctioned following investigations and the advice of the Council’s relevant committee.”

Ghana Highway Authority condemns illegal removal of reinforcement from Achimota-Ofankor underpass wall

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has issued a public condemnation following the illegal removal of reinforcement from a retaining wall at the Tantra Hill underpass along the Achimota-Ofankor road (N6).

The act, which came to light through a viral video posted by Buzzstopboys, has prompted concern over public infrastructure safety and security.

In a statement from the GHA, the video revealed exposed steel reinforcements in a section of the retaining wall. An investigation by engineers from the authority determined that the exposure was due to spalling, a form of deterioration affecting the concrete surface, which subsequently made the steel rebars vulnerable to theft by unidentified individuals.

The Highway Authority assured the public that despite the damage, the structural integrity of the underpass remains intact and safe for all road users. Immediate repairs have been scheduled to prevent any further degradation of the wall.

Labeling the act as vandalism, the Authority reminded the public that tampering with public infrastructure constitutes a criminal offense under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (LI 2180), Section 114, Subsection 4(b).

GHA has urged all citizens and commuters to stay alert and report any suspicious activities around public infrastructure to the nearest police station or the Public Affairs Division of the GHA.
