The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has successfully repatriated 55 undocumented foreign nationals in Tamale, following a targeted intelligence-led operation.
According to a statement issued by ACI Michael Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs at GIS, the individuals identified as Burkinabes were victims of suspected fraudulent network marketing schemes and lacked valid immigration documentation.
The operation was carried out under a directive from the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, who recently instructed all Regional and Border Commanders to intensify efforts against cyber fraud and immigration-related offenses.
During the operation:
– 38 Burkinabes were rescued from a suburb of Tamale, allegedly linked to a network marketing scheme known as NEOLIFE.
– An additional 17 Burkinabes were apprehended in a separate location, reportedly involved in another scheme called QNET.
Investigations revealed that none of the individuals possessed valid travel documents, prompting their repatriation.
The GIS emphasized its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders while ensuring that all foreign nationals are treated with dignity and in accordance with the law.
