The Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has acknowledged that Ghana is not yet fully prepared for the upcoming FIFA World Cup but insists that adequate structures have been established to ensure readiness in due time.
He made this known during an interview with an Accra-based television station monitored by Happyghana.com on Monday, March 30, where he addressed concerns about the country’s preparedness both on and off the pitch.
The minister indicated that while Ghana cannot currently claim full readiness, deliberate steps have been taken to guarantee the team and the nation are adequately prepared when required.
He noted that government has already committed financial resources in the 2026 budget to support the campaign.
Beyond football performance, the minister stressed that World Cup preparation involves broader national engagements, including promotional activities aimed at projecting Ghana on the global stage.
He explained that the tournament presents an opportunity not only for the Black Stars to compete but also for the country to showcase its culture and identity beyond match days.
Government, he revealed, has earmarked a total of $30 million for the World Cup campaign, covering both team-related expenses and other promotional initiatives.
Out of this amount, about $16 million has been allocated specifically for the team’s participation, including feeding, training, accommodation, per diems, and bonuses throughout the competition, from the group stage to a potential final appearance.
