With some few months after a year ago since the demise of the legendary Ghanaian poet, Professor Atukwei Okai, the 6th Ghana Poetry Festival, organised by Values for Life-Ghana in partnership with e-Ananse Libraries and Ghana Reads Initiative, is opening with a conversation about him. The session dubbed, “The Lorgoligi Logarithm Conversation: Spotlight on Prof. Atukwei Okai”, will have high profiled personalities who were connected to Prof. Atukwei Okai (in different ways) lead a holistic conversation about him. These personalities include Hon. Nathaniel Nuno Amarteifioo (Former Mayor of Accra), Dr. Mawuli Adzei (Senior Lecturer @ English Department, University of Ghana), Nana Kwesi Gyan Apenteng (Former President, Ghana Association of Writers), Comrade Kwasi Pratt Jr. (Journalist/Member SFG) and Fred Agbobli (Poet and trainee of Prof. Atukwei Okai).

“The Lorgoligi Logarithm Conversation: Spotlight on Prof. Atukwei Okai” is designed to touch different aspects of Prof. Atukwei Okai’s life. In between the conversations will be reading/performances of his poems (and of others as tribute to him) as well as music performances by the choir from his former school, Accra High School. The date for this big conversation is Friday, 08 November, 2019 at 4:00 pm. The venue is the Accra City Hall (within the New AMA Complex near Kinbu SHS). The Chairperson for the day would be Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur (former Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana). Expected to be present at this all-important event will be the family of the late legend. Entry is free.

Other activities scheduled for the festival will be on Saturday, 09 November, 2019 at Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) House, Roman Ridge from 10:00 am to 7:00pm. They include Poetry Connect with Prof. Lade Wosornu, Poetry Therapy with  Mrs Naa Kwaaley Dove, Master class with Dr. Mawuli Adzei (How To Review A Poem), Master class with Mr. Woeli Dekutsey (Poetry Writing & Publishing), Poetry Reading with Abednego Ntreh (Poetry in Mother Tongue), Poetry Read with World Reader, Blast a Balloon, Read a Poem!, Workshop with Dr. Martin Egblewogbe (How to Write Prose Poetry), Copyright Workshop with Bnoska (Copyright Protection of Poetry works), Conversation with Chieff Moomen, Rhyme Sonny, Nana Asaase, Oswald Okaitei (Contemporary trend in Ghanaian Poetry), The “Matriach’s Verse Experience” with Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong Abbey, Master class with Blakk Rasta (Dub Poetry: the beginning, its structure), Conversation moderated by Hondred Percent on Uniting the Ghanaian Poetry Frontier and Performances.

There will also be a Children’s corner to be ran by KIDDIE SPORTS (RAED 2 PLAY); where children would be made to read and play video games. There would also be stands for sale and exhibition of literary works. Entry is free. For enquiries, +233 244 174 908 or +233 571 174 908 or ghanapoetryfestival6@gmail.com.
