The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the collection of GH2.5 million from the troubled CEO of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited in the ongoing legal procedures against Nana Appiah Mensah, commonly known as Nam 1.

The funds were deposited on Friday, October 20, 2023, following the advice of the Office of the Attorney-General.

This GH₵2.5 million deposit has been securely placed into the Police Exhibit account at the Bank of Ghana (BoG). It is earmarked for the attention of the Accra High Court, where multiple petitions from customers of Menzgold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited are currently being adjudicated.

These petitions allege wrongdoing on the part of Nana Appiah Mensah, who is facing a litany of charges, including fraud and money laundering.

Notably, Nana Appiah Mensah had been granted bail on September 19, 2023, in the amount of GH¢500 million, with stringent bail conditions. These conditions include providing four sureties, each without the need for justification, and surrendering his passport at the court registry.

Nana Appiah Mensah, along with Menzgold Ghana Limited and Brew Marketing Consult, faces a total of 39 counts related to the aforementioned charges, and the legal process is continuing. The final decision regarding the disbursement of the GH₵2.5 million deposit will be determined by the court, highlighting the rigorous legal proceedings surrounding this high-profile case.
