The Ghana Railway Workers Union has announced a nationwide strike beginning September 30, 2025, over 12 months of unpaid salaries.
The declaration was made during a press conference by the General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah.
“It’s been 12 solid months since the workers of the company were paid. Just imagine the situation of a worker and their family in today’s Ghana without a salary for 12 calendar months.”
TUC criticized the government’s withdrawal of support from the Ghana Railway Company Limited, a state-owned enterprise, calling it “strange” given the sector’s importance to national development.
“We have written letters and engaged government at the highest level. We will no longer settle for assurances. We have had enough of them already.”
The union has demanded immediate payment of salary arrears and warned the Ministry of Transport and the Ghana Railway Development Authority against attempts to operate trains without the designated operator.
“We will resist any attempt to sideline the Ghana Railway Company Limited,”.
