The rate of digitization in Ghana could make the country a leader in the digitization crusade on the continent of Africa, that is according to the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The Vice President who was speaking during the official commissioning of an ultramodern ICT Centre and Library at the Abbosey Okai Basic school mentioned that the government has made huge investments in Ghana’s digital space since the NPP government took office in 2017.

The Vice President extolled projects including the paperless port, online passport and driver’s license acquisition as some of the critical steps taken to formalize and digitize the country.

According to the Vice President, the commissioning of the ultramodern ICT/Library was a testament of the government’s conviction of making IT and digitization part and parcel of the Ghanaian life. He reiterated the government’s intent to extend WIFI facilities to all SHS and colleges of education. He revealed that a large number of SHSs are now connected to internet facilities that will augment teaching and learning. According to the Vice President, the interface between digitization and development should not be lost on the people.

The NPP government has, since its assumption to office, introduced several policies including GhanaPost GPS, paperless passport application, online DVLA license acquisition which has received varied acceptance by a section of the Ghanaian population. The goal, as espoused by the government, of these digital interventions is to ensure efficiency in the delivery of public goods and services.
