Ghanaian Footballers Abroad: Paintsil’s first season goal and Inaki’s heroics propel clubs to victory

Over the past weekend, Ghanaian football talents showcased their skills overseas. Joseph Paintsil struck his first goal of the season, securing a draw for Genk against St. Truiden. Meanwhile, Inaki Williams continued his remarkable form, contributing a goal and an assist as Athletic Club triumphed 2-0 over Alaves. Here’s a recap of how Ghanaian players fared in the top six leagues worldwide:

Premier League – Round 8

  • Jordan Ayew made a strong comeback from injury, playing the full 90 minutes for Crystal Palace in a goalless draw against Fulham. Jeffrey Schlupp was substituted after 70 minutes.
  • Thomas Partey remained sidelined for Arsenal due to injury in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham. Eddie Nketia completed the full match.
  • Mohammed Kudus joined the action in the 74th minute as West Ham United fell 3-1 to Liverpool.
  • Tariq Lamptey made a late appearance as Brighton defeated Bournemouth 3-1. Antoine Semenyo entered the game after the hour mark for Bournemouth.

LaLiga – Round 8

  • Inaki Williams played a pivotal role, scoring and assisting for Athletic Club in their 2-0 victory over Alaves.
  • Joseph Aidoo remained on the bench as Celta Vigo lost 3-2 to Barcelona.
  • Baba Iddrisu came on as a second-half substitute for the final 15 minutes in Almeria’s 2-2 draw against Valencia.
  • Abdul Mumin, once again, was an unused substitute for Rayo Vallecano in their 1-1 draw with Villarreal.

Serie A – Round 5

  • Caleb Ekuban entered the game for the final 13 minutes as Genoa suffered a 1-0 loss to Lecce.
  • Emmanuel Gyasi was an unused substitute for Empoli in their 1-0 loss to Inter Milan.
  • Alfred Duncan played 15 minutes for Fiorentina in their 2-0 win over Udinese.
  • Ibrahim Sulemana was subbed off after an hour as Cagliari fell 2-0 to Atalanta.

Bundesliga – Round 5

  • Patric Pfeiffer, a defender, provided an assist and played for 72 minutes as Augsburg won 2-1 against Mainz.
  • Christopher Antwi-Adjei lasted 77 minutes for Bochum, but they faced a tough 7-0 defeat against Bayern Munich.
  • Jeremie Frimpong played for 79 minutes as Leverkusen secured a 4-1 victory over Heidenheim.
  • Kofi Kyereh was still recovering from his injury as Freiburg played out a goalless draw against Frankfurt.

French Ligue 1 – Round 6

  • Mohammed Salisu remained sidelined due to a groin injury as Lens suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Nice.
  • Ernest Nuamah was substituted after 52 minutes in Lyon’s 1-0 loss to Brest.
  • Alidu Seidu put in a commendable performance for Clermont Foot, but they lost 2-1 to Le Havre. Grejohn Kyei made a late appearance for Clermont.
  • Lens, with Salis Abdul Samed, clinched their first win of the season, with Salis playing the entire game in their 2-1 victory over Toulouse.

Belgium Pro League – Round 8

  • Joseph Paintsil notched his first goal of the season, helping Genk stage a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down to secure a draw, in addition to his three assists.
