Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has accused the ruling government of skewing the economy of Ghana to favour a few people in authority rather than attending to the needs of the ordinary Ghanaian populace.

According to candidate Mahama, the NDC is set to put Ghana on an all inclusive road to prosperity and nothing less.

Speaking at the NDC manifesto launch, ex-President Mahama said, “Ghana’s economy is working for a few and not the people. We will usher Ghana into an era of shared prosperity and all Ghanaians will reap the fruits of its labour amd eradicate poverty. It is possible and we will do it.”

Seeking to hold the office of President in 2021, candidate Mahama added that his party will make the business sector attractive again and increase Ghanaian participation in the sector.

“We will put an end to the vindictive collapse of Ghanaian businesses and its attendant job losses,” he stated.

The flagbearer of the NDC motioned that his party will sanitize the financial sector and rescue Ghana’s distressed economy. “We will bring the public debt under control and restore inclusive growth,” he emphasised.

The economy of Ghana has a diverse and rich resource base, including the manufacturing and exportation of digital technology goods, automotive and ship construction and the exportation of diverse and rich resources such as hydrocarbons and industrial minerals.

The economy of Ghana advanced 4.9% in the 1st quarter of 2020, decelerating from a 7.9% growth in the previous period. That was the slowest expansion since the 2nd quarter of 2016, amid some impact from the Covid-19 pandemic despite lockdown rules being imposed in late March.
