Obroni Wawu October (OWO) in collaboration with the Or Foundation and Kantamanto Market Community, is set to host the second edition of Ghana’s first secondhand (foose) festival on October 29, 2023 at Rawlings Park in Accra from 12pm to 5pm, with build up events earlier in the week.

This year’s event theme “The Adeɛyie Resurrection” (to do better) is a celebration of Kantamanto Market as a globally leading hub for reuse, repair, upcycling and remanufacturing; and calls all fashion enthusiasts back to the roots of Ghana’s culture of preservation; something The Or Foundation, through ongoing public awareness efforts hopes to make a point of pride for Ghanaians.

Obroni Wawu October (OWO) ‘23 will present attendees with captivating performances, stunning runway shows and thought provoking conversations around the secondhand economy and reuse culture in Ghana.

Details of the activities are as follows:
● Thursday 26th Oct | 8pm – late | Foose Friday | Palm Moments, Asylum Downs
A night to party and have fun with Accra’s thrift community and OWO’s cohort of fashion designers.

● Saturday 28th Oct | 10:30am – 1:30pm | Circle Talk | The Or Foundation, Adabraka

Join allies from Chile, Uganda, Kenya, France, USA, Nigeria, South Africa, and the UK to discuss strategy around the Stop Waste Colonialism EPR campaign, a prosperous future for the Kantamanto community and the secondhand clothing trade at-large.

● Sunday 29th Oct | 12pm-5pm | OWO Day | Rawlings Park, Makola
Meet Kantamanto retailers and enjoy performances, runway shows, music, and food, building community from across the city. These events aim to showcase the skills of Kantamanto’s Community, including upcycling demonstrations, pop up shops, a talent show and a styling
contest.

More than 1000 people attended last year’s inaugural celebration inside the market. This year’s edition promises more events, more designers, more performances and a bigger venue. Obroni Wawu October (OWO) invites people of all backgrounds to participate in Africa’s first foose festival which promises to be both exciting and educational; to elevate the conversation on secondhand fashion and its relevance within Ghanaian fashion culture and the fashion industry globally.

This event is brought to you with support from the following media partners: 3Music.tv, The Multimedia Group, TV3 and Yfm. Powered by The Or Foundation, Kantamanto Used Clothing Association, Palm Moments, Ghana Food Movement, Oroko Radio, Mabilgu Foods, Suya Republik and The She
Guards.
