Ghanaian swimmer Nubia Adjei stole the spotlight at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore after setting a new national record in the women’s 50m butterfly.

The 100m backstroke record holder clocked an impressive 28.82 seconds to finish third in Heat 4, breaking the previous national record of 29.14 seconds held by Joselle Mensah. This latest achievement further solidifies Nubia’s status as one of Ghana’s premier swimmers since her debut in 2020.

She also competed in the 50m backstroke, finishing 10th in Heat 3 with a time of 32.23 seconds.

Elsewhere at the championships, Joselle Mensah made waves of her own by setting two new national records, clocking 26.48 seconds in the 50m freestyle and 58.98 seconds in the 100m freestyle. Despite her strong performances, she narrowly missed out on reaching the semi-finals in both events.

Team captain Abeku Jackson fell short of advancing, finishing 8th in his 50m butterfly heat with a time of 24.49 seconds, and was disqualified in the 100m butterfly for undisclosed reasons.

Olympian and African Championships medalist Harry Stacey finished 8th in Heat 8 of the 50m freestyle with 23.05 seconds, and placed 10th in Heat 7 of the 100m freestyle, clocking 51.43 seconds.

The quartet of joselle Mensah, Nubia Adjei, Harry Stacey, and Abeku Jackson did not compete in the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay but featured in the 4x100m mixed medley relay, placing 6th in Heat 2 with a time of 4:13.77.

Team Ghana was led by Ghana Swimming Association President Delphina Quaye and General Secretary Muniru Kassim.
