The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has dismissed false claims that the Government of Ghana plans to award bauxite concessions in Nyinahin to businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.

In a statement issued and signed by Priscilla Hemans, Public Affairs and Communications Manager of GIADEC, on behalf of management, GIADEC said it had taken note of a publication making the allegation but stressed that “no such plan exists,” describing the claim as misleading and unfounded.

According to GIADEC, under the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to reposition Ghana to fully benefit from its natural resources, executive approval was granted for the corporation to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves in the country.

The move, it said, was intended to strengthen GIADEC’s mandate and enable it to attract suitable investments and strategic partnerships for the development of the aluminium industry.

The corporation disclosed that in June 2025, it successfully obtained six mining leases covering bauxite concessions across the country, including the Nyinahin deposits.

These leases, GIADEC noted, are currently before Parliament for ratification.

GIADEC further emphasized that under the government’s new policy framework, all bauxite concessions will remain under its control as the sole leaseholder.

It added that steps are being taken to ensure that this policy remains in force beyond the tenure of the current administration.

The corporation therefore urged the public to disregard any publication suggesting that the government intends to grant bauxite concessions to any individual, reiterating that such claims are false.
