Mr. Ernest Boateng, Vice President of the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and CEO of Global Media Alliance Group, has expressed GIBA’s solidarity with the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme. Speaking at the programme’s opening ceremony held at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC) in Accra, Mr. Boateng emphasized the importance of ethical journalism, technological adaptation, and combating misinformation in promoting a vibrant and informed media landscape, essential for a thriving democracy.

“This initiative represents more than just a training opportunity. It signifies a collective dedication to advancing a vibrant ethical and informed media landscape. Through programmes like this, you further learn about the culture of accountability, ethical reporting and balanced story values that are indispensible in any thriving democracy.

The skills and knowledge earned here will equip participants to navigate the complexities of modern journalism including the rise in misinformation, the influence of social media and the need for rapid yet accurate news delivery,” he stated.

He highlighted the programme’s focus on continuous professional development, nurturing a culture of lifelong learning, and integrating best practices in media. Mr. Boateng specifically endorsed the programme’s emphasis on:

  1. Ethical journalism and accountability, ensuring public trust in media and confident approach to sensitive stories with objectivity, fairness, and responsibility.
  2. Technological adaptation, enabling media professionals to leverage new technologies for advanced data approaches and digital storytelling to reach broader audiences.
  3. Combating misinformation, equipping media practitioners to defend against fake news and ensure credible, well-sourced information for the public.
