Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), the umbrella company of broadcasting giants, YFM (Accra, Kumasi & Takoradi), Happy98.9FM and e.TV Ghana has officially launched the month of April as the Technology Month.

As part of its monthly themed series, GMABC has chosen the month of April to celebrate the various aspects of technology and how they are being used strategically by global economies to advance and especially how technology is being applied as the world suffers the COVID-19 pandemic.

Launching the month today on the all-new Happy Morning Show was the Director of GMABC, Timothy Karikari who remarked, “Ghana is not an exception as the past decade has witnessed a surge in technological start-ups, technologically enhanced service and products and a general appreciation of the value of technology in everyday living. Global Media Alliance Broadcast Co. (GMABC) has dedicated the month of April to promote all facets of technology on its 5 media platforms spread across the vibrant regions of Ghana; Y107.9 in Accra, Y102.5fm in Kumasi, Y97.9fm in Takoradi, Happy 98.9FM in Accra and e.tv Ghana.”

He noted that in addition to traditional media, the digital assets of the brand will be equally utilized to promote technology in Ghana. The Technology Month campaign which will be driven both on-air and online will also have focus areas for the entire five-week period.

Outlining the weekly activities for the month he mentioned that for the 1st week, the brands will take time to take listeners, viewers, and clients through retro technology. “We will journey into the past and remind ourselves of the evolution of technology, from old tech through the various advancement to where we are now,” he said.

For the 2nd and 3rd week, the brands will focus on smart devices and e-commerce. The highlight will be on their benefits to living especially as some parts of the country are under lockdown. “With these smart devices, most people locked in their homes and without access to the physical gym facilities get the opportunity to still have a full workout session with trainers on their phones. These virtual trainers take individuals through their workout routines and they don’t miss a beat. How cool is that? Businesses are still operating and I am bold to say some are even booming though their buildings are locked. With e-commerce and digital payments, customers and businesses alike can buy and sell online. You just go to the website or social media platform of these companies, simply place an order, make payment and get your stuff delivered to you at your doorstep,” he stated.

With technology literally dictating the pace of the world, Ghanaians do not want to be left out. With the dire need to contribute to the development of the world, there have been numerous technological startups springing up in the country.
The 4th week will be dedicated to celebrating these tech startups and also how technology has been applied to transportation and logistics. Gone are the days one had moved to the roadside to get a taxi to town. With the introduction of ride-hailing platforms, one can just order a car in the comfort of your home and even get goods delivered to your doorsteps without any stress.

As schools have been closed because of COVID-19, GMABC will dedicate the 5th week to educate parents and listeners on the contribution of technology to education. Parents and guardians will be introduced to a wide array of educational platforms and applications that their kids can use to catch up with their school work. Director Timothy noted, “The government of the day is doing terrific when it comes to technology and education amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. They’ve launched the Campus website where students can have access to their school materials and still study whilst schools have been shut down. As a brand, we will complement the government’s work, by suggesting a couple of other platforms to parents as they home school their kids.”

The media’s effort in educating the public and also the seamless transmission of their programming through video conferencing and interviews will also be looked at in the 5th week.

“The future is a technology and if you do not want to be left behind, follow our brands through the month of April as we take you through the technological journey. It will be technology made easier. Technology Month, let’s travel the virtual journey together,” he declared.
