“Go and burn the sea”- Obiri Boahen fires critics of Nana Addo over renaming

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen is asking critics of President Nana Addo over his recent renaming of public universities to keep mute or go and burn the sea if they don’t understand the rationale behind the renaming.

According to the deputy chief scribe of the NPP, all those who are being named after the public universities deserve more than that.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show, he said the former Prime Minister, Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, being named after University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is nothing and that he deserves more than that.

“Is he deserving of the renaming I will ask? To me, yes.. Let me state reasons why he deserves it; Kofi Busia was the first Black man to be a …DC… and also lecture at the Sociology department at the University of Ghana. He was also the first black man to lecture at a university in Holland. History will tell you that he was the first man to head an opposition party in Africa. He is also the first person from Bono Ahafo to become a prime minister. All these achievements make him more than deserving of the renaming.”

”They can continue to wallow in their unquenchable ignorance..People can continue in their unbridled tribal hatred. The bottom line is Kofi Busia deserves more than this and if some do not understand that, they can go burn the sea,” he added.

There are reports that the government may soon rename the country’s premier university following a similar exercise with regard to a few universities – the latest being the recent proposal by the Governing Council of the UENR to rename the school after Dr. Busia, Prime Minister of the Government of the 2nd Republic.

President Nana Addo has already given his blessing to the move. It will eventually be called the K.A. Busia University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani.

Early this month, the Wa UDS campus was renamed S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.
