Gonvernment through the Ministry of Interior has imposed a 6:00am to 6:00pm curfew in Bawku in the Upper East till further notice.

The Curfew which takes effect from October 28, 2024 was agreed after an emergency meeting.

According to a statement released by the Interior Ministry, the return of Seidu Abagre, who was illegally enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023, subsequent to the vacation by the court of Appeal, sitting in Kumasi, of the warrant for his arrest, has led to significant disturbances affecting public peace and security in the area.

The disturbance by Mr. Abagre’s return led to the loss of numerous lives in Bawku resulting in the curfew.

The Ministry has urged residents to comply with the new directives and cooperate fully with the security agencies to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

“Government is committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the people of Bawku and its environs”.

The statement added that, security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew and maintain law and order.
