The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has made a solemn commitment that government will forge a strong partnership with the W.E.B Du Bois Centre to ensure its continued progress and success.

This pledge was made at the Emancipation Wreath-Laying Ceremony, held at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on Thursday, July 25.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer’s assurance was in response to a passionate appeal made by Professor Esi Sutherland-Addy, Chairperson of the International Board of Trustees of the PANAFEST Foundation. Professor Sutherland-Addy urged government to fulfill its existing agreement to invest in the W.E.B Du Bois Centre, thereby ensuring its growth and development into a thriving hub of cultural and intellectual activity.

Egypt Mercer emphasized the significance of the event’s theme, “Unity and Resilience: Building Stronger Communities for a Brighter Future.” He reminded the audience that their forefathers, including the venerable W.E.B Du Bois, George Padmore, and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, had fought valiantly against the injustices of slavery and colonialism, paving the way for the progress enjoyed today.

He urged all Ghanaians to unite and continue the noble work of their ancestors, striving for a brighter future for generations to come.
