The Government of Ghana has officially restored the original name of Kotoka International Airport, reverting the country’s main aviation gateway to Accra International Airport.
In a statement, the Ministry explained that the facility had historically operated under the Accra International Airport designation prior to its renaming, noting that the decision reflects what it describes as a return to the airport’s former and internationally recognised identity.
Authorities emphasised that the change is purely administrative and will not impact airport operations, safety protocols, or international travel procedures. The Ministry further clarified that within International Civil Aviation Organisation records, the airport code remains unchanged as “ACC”.
The renaming exercise will involve updates to official documents, statutory instruments where required, airport signage, digital systems, aviation publications, and related communication platforms.
Government has called on stakeholders, aviation partners, and the general public to cooperate with relevant institutions to ensure a smooth transition process.
