Government suspends law banning importation of salvaged vehicle

The government has disclosed that the ban on the importation of salvaged vehicles and suspended vehicles has been suspended.

The law which was expected to take effect on November 1 2020 has been suspended.

Speaking on 3FM, the co-chair of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, Clement Boateng, confirmed that government has suspended the law on the ban of importation of salvaged vehicles .

According to him, at meeting he was priviledged to join, it was mentioned that Ghanaians have the liberty to deal in the importation of salvaged and overaged vehicles into the country. He added that the act was not going to be implemented as has been planned. Government suspends law of ban on importation of salvaged vehicle.

This news comes after president John Dramani Mahama mentioned during the National Democratic Congress’ manifesto launch that they would scrap the law if the win the elections. Parliament passed the Customs (Amendment) Bill, 2020 that bans the importation of accident and salvaged motor vehicles into the country.

According to the report, the law would take effect from November 1, 2020. The passage of the bill came after the adoption and approval of the report of the Joint Committees on Finance, Trade and Industry and Tourism for amendments to be made in the Customs Act, 2015 on March 3, 2020. The law, signed by President Nana Akufo-Addo on April 30, would take effect from October 2020.
