Speaking during the sod-cutting and the handing over of project sites for the construction of various developmental projects, Frank Nkansah respectfully urged the contractor to employ skillful hands in the immediate community as labourers.

“We have already discussed with the contractor to look for labourers in the immediate environment of the respective projects. We believe that Ablekuma Central Municipality has the enough skilled labour the contractors could leverage”, he reiterated.

Mr. Nkansah argues the use of local labourers will ensure community buy-in and build a sense of community ownership of the projects. He charged the respective assembly representatives to scout for people, particularly the youth, they know could contribute meaningfully to the success of the respective projects.

The projects include the construction of a three storey open stalls, shops and offices as well as the construction of drainange and external compound works at the Shukura Market; construction of two new storey 6-unit classroom block with offices at the New Abossey Okai Basic School; construction of three storey maternity unit, dentistry unit, eye unit and administration block at the Laterbiokorshie polyclinic; renovation of a twelve unit classroom block at the Salvation Army School; drilling and mechanization of twenty-two boreholes and; the construction of state-of-the-art astro turf and ancillary facilities.

According to Mr. Nkansah, the projects signify a clear testament of the NDC administration’s willingness to ensure equitable distribution of infrastructural projects across the country to better the livelihoods of Ghanaians. He thus pleaded with respective community leaders to support the assembly to ensure the successful completion of the projects.

“We are in a hurry to ensure Ablekuma Central develops”, he stated, pleading for pardon from stakeholders whose inputs were not sought before the project plan was concluded on. Mr. Nkansah explained certain circumstances could not allow for a broader consultation to be had. He, however, assured the projects are for the good of the people of Ablekuma Central Municipal assembly.

He disclosed all the funds for the successful completion of all the projects have been made available by the government of Ghana through the District Assemblies Common Fund, admonishing the contractor to stick to the timelines provided.
