President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government’s plans of building six new national stadiums for the new regions created in 2018 by former president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to the president, the new regions namely Bono East, Ahafo, and Bono (carved out of Brong-Ahafo), North East and Savannah (carved out of Northern), and Oti (carved out of Volta) and Western North (carved out of Western) together with other regions without stadiums will all get their own.
He said the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams is overseeing the designs of a modern sports stadia for the six new regions and the regions that do not have them.
The president made this announcement during his “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region while highlighting some of his plans for the development of sports.
“Modern Sports stadia are to be built for the six new regions and other regions that do not have them. As I speak to you right now, the Minister of Sports and Recreation is overseeing the design of a modern sports stadia for the six new regions and that regions that do not have them,” president Mahama said.
