The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has finalized activities for Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary, outlining a series of events to commemorate the occasion.

A statement released on Sunday, February 23, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the celebrations will begin with the commemoration of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident on Friday, 28th February 2025.

This will be followed by the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on Sunday, 2nd March 2025, and a debate competition on Tuesday, 4th March 2025.

According to the statement on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, the President will host the annual School Children Awards Programme. The celebrations will peak with a grand ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the presidency on Thursday, 6th March 2025.

Leading up to the 28th February event, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will introduce historical and educational content to enhance public awareness and engagement. This initiative aims to reignite interest and encourage greater participation, particularly among the youth, while honoring national heroes.

As part of the programme, an X-space conversation will explore the theme “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.” Media outlets across radio, television, online, and print platforms are encouraged to facilitate discussions and publish content related to the anniversary theme to promote public involvement.

A wreath-laying ceremony is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Friday, 28th February 2025, at the Nationalism Park. The event will be broadcast live on multiple platforms, with the public and media encouraged to participate.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu has called on stakeholders to support the celebrations by actively sharing information to boost engagement and public participation.
