The Government of Ghana has disbursed GH¢9.7 billion as part of its coupon payment obligations under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in a post on his official Facebook page. He indicated that the exact amount released for this payment stands at GH¢9,698,815,220.17.

According to Dr. Ato Forson, this brings the total amount paid by government under the DDEP in 2025 to GH¢19.4 billion, underscoring the state’s determination to meet its financial obligations.

The Minister noted that the latest payment reflects government’s unwavering commitment to the terms outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding signed under the programme. He said the move is expected to boost investor confidence and reinforce Ghana’s fiscal credibility.

He revealed that as part of efforts to ensure long-term debt sustainability, government has established two dedicated sinking fund accounts, a Cedi Sinking Fund Account and a US Dollar Sinking Fund Account in line with the 2025 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review and as mandated by the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended.

These accounts, he explained, will serve as liquidity buffers for the timely redemption of future loan obligations, including bonds maturing in 2026, 2027, and 2028.

He further assured investors and the general public that all subsequent debt obligations, including those under the DDEP, will be honoured in full and on schedule.
