Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that Senior High School (SHS) students will soon have the opportunity to study a major foreign language alongside their core subjects.

He indicated that, its President John Dramani Mahama vision for Ghanaian students to gain linguistic proficiency in one foreign language.

According to the minister, students will have options including French, Spanish, German, Chinese, or another compulsory language tailored to their field of study.

“It is also the vision and dream of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama that from senior high school, every Ghanaian student will have an option to choose between one major foreign language—French, Spanish, German, Chinese, or any other compulsory language to accompany their area of study. That will also be introduced as part of our review of curricula”.

The Education Minister emphasized that the introduction of foreign language studies at the SHS 2 level aims to better prepare students for the global job market, encourage multiculturalism, and strengthen Ghana’s international competitiveness.
