The Government of Ghana will on the 18th of February, 2020, launch a mobile application for the payment of electricity bills, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has said.

In a speech at the first ever Government’s Town Hall Meeting held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, the Vice President stated: “On February 18th, in less than two weeks’ time, I will launch a nationwide mobile application that will allow ECG customers to buy units for their meters through their mobile phones at any time.

So if it is 2am in the morning, and you have run out of units, take your mobile phone, and put in your digits and then the meter will come on. I must add you will also be able to buy units for someone else”.

He further stressed that this initiative is part of Government’s efforts to formalize the economy through digitization “is going to reduce a lot of inefficiency and make life easier for all our people, as well as reduce corruption”.
