Asante Kotoko recorded a 1-0 win over Karela United in match day 13 of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa on Friday.

The Porcupine Warriors recorded another second consecutive win in the league after securing this vital point away from home.

Asante Kotoko scored as early as the first minute through William Opoku who fed on Emmanuel Gyamfi’s through pass inside the box and slotted the ball into the net.

Karela’s Diawise Taylor was a constant threat to the defense of Asante Kotoko but was kept calm on the day as he failed to get the needed equalizer for the home side.

Kwame Boateng also failed to grab the equalizer for Karela in the 24th minute as his shot went wide for goal kick.

The first half ended with the Porcupine Warrior s leading the tie on the break.

Songne Yacouba made his return for the Kumasi based club in the 72nd minute as he came on for goalscorer William Opoku Mensah .

Asante Kotoko have moved up to the summit of the league log after this win.

Emmanuel Kayeke of Karela was voted Man of the Match.

Post match reactions

Anos Adepa- Karela

“We deserved to win this game based on the performance exhibited on the pitch. It was hard luck”.

Maxwell Konadu- Asante Kotoko
It was a difficult ground and our tactics worked to perfection. I will congratulate the players and our focus now is on our next game.
Yacouba is a Kotoko player and what happens depends on his performance in training.
