The National Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Kwame Kumah, has encouraged all public transport drivers in the country to make hand sanitizers available in their vehicles to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus also known as COVID-19.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, aired on Happy 98.9FM, he explained: “We cannot leave our work. What we can do and have done is to take precautionary measures. We are yet to meet the ministry, but at this point we encourage all drivers to purchase hand sanitizers and use till we meet the ministry”.

He added that the drivers can make these hand sanitizers available for use by their passengers as well as their conductors.

He, however, noted that punitive action can only be taken against drivers who do not adhere to this directive only if enough sensitization on the use of hand sanitizers has been made, and it is beyond reasonable doubt that these drivers are being disobedient.

Whilst Ghanaians are encouraged to make use of hand sanitizers to prevent COVID-19, some shops have taken advantage of the outbreak of Coronavirus to increase the prices of hand sanitizers. Many Ghanaians have raised concerns concerning the outrageous increase in the prices of these hand sanitizers.

Ghana has recorded a total of 6 Coronavirus cases with no death recorded.
