The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has suspended its strike following a meeting with President Akufo-Addo and the Ga Mantse.
GUTA closed down their shops in Accra to protest the prevailing harsh economic conditions in the country.
The protest was intended to push government to urgently address the depreciating cedi, high-interest rate, and soaring inflation.
In a statement Thursday, however, the group said the Ga Mantse called them for a meeting following the strike and assured them their concerns will be escalated to the relevant quarters. The statemen
further noted President Akufo-Addo subsequently invited them for a meeting and took immediate steps to address their concerns after the meeting.
Government has come under heavy criticism the wake of the weakening currency against the US dollar. The Cedi’s performance against the dollar appears to be fumbling every hour hitting businesses harder than expected.
