Happy 98.9 FM to mark historic 1963 African Cup of Nations Champions

Ghana’s No. 1 sports station is set to host a special ceremony to honour the legendary Black Stars team that won Ghana’s first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1963. The event scheduled to take place on December 13, 2023, at the Ghana Tourism Information Centre in Accra will be a celebration of the remarkable footballers who brought immense pride and joy to the nation.

Five Ghanaian football legends, Kofi Pare, Leonard Acquah, Wilberforce Mfum, Anum Okai, and Dodoo Ankrah, will be celebrated for their historic achievement of bringing home the first-ever AFCON title. These icons have inspired generations of players and continue to be revered figures in the Ghanaian football community.

“This ceremony is a tribute to the exceptional talent and dedication of these five living legends.” said Timothy Karikari, Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC). Their victory in 1963 not only marked a significant moment in Ghanaian football history but also united the nation and established Ghana as a powerful force in African football.”

The ceremony will feature speeches, presentations from notable personalities, and an opportunity for the public to meet and interact with the 5 living Stars.

Happy FM, a leading radio station in Ghana, will also at the same event officially launch its comprehensive coverage of the AFCON tournament, providing listeners with in-depth analysis, exclusive interviews, and live match commentary.

“We are excited to celebrate these heroes while simultaneously launching our comprehensive AFCON coverage,” said Mr. Karikari “We are committed to providing our listeners with the most comprehensive and engaging AFCON experience possible.” he added.

The event is strictly by invitation, however, the public and sports enthusiasts can join the captivating celebration of Ghanaian football history and the excitement of the upcoming AFCON tournament, on Happy 98.9 FM’s Facebook page for a livestream.
