Leading Ghanaian radio station, Happy 98.9FM, a subsidiary of the Global Media Alliance conglomerate, has paid a courtesy visit to the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, at his office in Parliament House.
The delegation from Happy 98.9FM included Director of the Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC); Dr. Timothy Kwakye Karikari, Director of Sales at GMABC; Austin Ampim, Programs Manager of Happy FM; Kwabena Ampong, News Editor; Fati Shaibu-Ali and host of the station’s socio-political show Epa Hoa Daben; Bismark Brown.
During the engagement, Hon. Dafeamekpor, who keeps 187 legislators in line shared insights into the demands of his role, noting that working closely with the Majority Leader requires constant focus and resilience.
“You must be patient as a leader, be tactful, and interested in getting the business done. Government is interested in getting business done. If you are not able to get the members to come and get business done, you are failing,” he said.
He also described himself as the ‘chief disciplinarian’ and ‘chief welfare officer’ for the MPs under his leadership.
Director of GMABC, Dr. Timothy Karikari noted that this engagement lays the foundation for greater collaboration between Parliament and the media.
Sharing similar sentiments, Bismark Brown indicated that both politicians and journalists play a collective role in positively impacting society. He noted this visit as a move bound toward development in society. “We are partners in the same business – the business of public service and as journalists and us a media house, we believe that in building bridges, keeping relationships and being in touch with stakeholders and as politicians you are one of our key stakeholders in the work we do.” he said.
Through this courtesy visit, Happy 98.9FM aims to deepen its role in fostering democratic dialogue, enhancing government transparency, and serving as both a voice for the people and a channel for legislators to effectively communicate with the public.
