Happy FM in collaboration with Lakeside Marina has today launched the 2020 edition of the annual 6km and 10km Happy FM/Lakeside Marina Family Fun Run and Walk in Accra.

The main event is scheduled for Friday, 6th March, 2020, and it will mark a decade since its inception, therefore it promises to be fun packed and amazing. The organizers of the event, Happy FM and Lakeside Marina revealed that, the run is organized annually on Ghana’s Independence Day to promote the need for regular exercising amongst corporate Ghana and Ghanaians in general.

Welcoming patrons and media personnel to the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Global Media Alliance, Mr. Ernest Boateng revealed that, “the Happy FM-Lakeside Marina Family Fun Run is an annual 6km and 10km family run and walk where participants and companies come together to exercise, network and to give back to society. Though some come with the sole purpose of winning amazing prizes, most people come to do something healthy and fun with colleagues and friends in the business community. As a brand, Happy 98.9FM stands for strengthening the undying bonds between families and engaging its audiences in its programming. That is why the new and refreshing Happy Morning Show engages its audience in its production process. Participating in the run is a great way to instill togetherness and keep each other motivated as a family. The more quality time spent with your family, the closer you become and that is why we are involved in this.”
He further encouraged all especially those who have never participated in the run to come on board this Independence Day, Friday, 6th March 2020, to ‘ease into exercise’ with their colleagues. “It is also a means to gain inspiration and motivation to continue running and walking even after this activity to improve their overall health.”

The Director of Lakeside Estate, Mr. Salah Kweku Kalmoni added that, “Most marathons and runs seek to promote running as a sport, and they also embrace an advocacy or sponsor a charity. This way, you are not only running for yourself, you are also helping someone else. That is why a percentage of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Mercy Social Center. This year, Gh₵7.00 from each participant’s contribution will be donated to the orphanage. This is something that Happy 98.9 FM and Lakeside Marina do every year to support the activities of Mercy Social Center.”

He further encouraged all and sundry to participate in the event as this year’s edition will feature a simultaneous run and walk from four main cities namely Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale. “We are encouraging all to participate; corporate organizations, families, and you as an individual can come on board too. We are aiming for six-hundred (600) runners this year and we want the four regions to have their own charity initiatives” he said.

The Park Manager of Lakeside Marina Park, Mr.Frederick Kissi, also mentioned that participants have the chance to enjoy a three-day free entry to the Lakeside Marina Estates after the run. He, however, encouraged participants to always be in their runghana t-shirt to enjoy this package.

Event Director of Run Ghana, Zuta Teye Isaac, gave a brief about run club he explained that, a run club has been established to help promote the active lifestyle of running to stay in shape.

He said, “The Run Club is an initiative by Run Ghana. It is aimed at fostering the spirit of running for health and fitness. The advent runs on a virtual community where members are linked through their desire to run for health and fitness. Thus, an online registration portal has been setup for interested parties to sign up. The membership costs GHS 100.00 and is valid for a year renewable at the end of the active year.

He made known that, members of the run club get a Run Ghana shirt and a 10% discount on two runs they organize for the active year (Corporate Run and Family Fun Run).

Additionally, members also get informative newsletters and health tips plus workout plan to aid their individual fitness goals.

Registration cost for an individual is a cool GH₵ 45.00 for early bird registrants and Gh₵ 50 for standard registration. Amazingly, registration cost for families have been discounted to GH₵ 100.00 for early bird registrations and costs GH₵ 150.00 for standard registration. The early bird registration for school teams is GH₵ 200.00 and GH₵ 250.00 for standard registration.
