Happy FM 98.9 is set to bring its flagship community engagement program “Happy on Wheels” directly to the bustling commercial hub of Abossey Okai on Thursday, July 31st, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
The mobile broadcasting initiative will provide a unique platform for traders, residents, and business owners in the Abossey Okai area to voice their concerns directly to municipal assembly leadership while enjoying live radio entertainment.
“Happy on Wheels represents our commitment to bringing radio closer to the people,” said Bridget Mensah, Head of PR, Marketing and Events for Global Media Alliance Broadcasting (GMABC). “We’re not just broadcasting to our communities, we’re broadcasting from within them, creating real conversations that can drive meaningful change.”
The four-hour live broadcast will feature interactive discussions between local traders and municipal assembly officials, addressing key issues affecting the commercial district. Participants will have the opportunity to raise concerns about infrastructure, business regulations, security, and other matters impacting their daily operations.
The event will be expertly hosted by Happy FM’s seasoned Current Affairs team, led by Sefah Danquah, the popular host of the Happy Morning Show, working alongside Bismark Brown, who hosts Epahoadaben, the flagship program that drives the Happy on Wheels initiative. These veteran broadcasters bring years of experience in community engagement and current affairs programming, ensuring that the dialogue remains focused, informative, and impactful.
Happy FM has partnered with several key institutions to provide valuable educational content and safety awareness during the event. The Ghana National Fire Service will be present to educate traders and residents on fire safety measures, proper use of fire extinguishers, and emergency response protocols, which is particularly crucial given the dense commercial nature of Abossey Okai where fire hazards pose significant risks to businesses and livelihoods.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) will also participate, offering comprehensive guidance on disaster preparedness and risk management strategies specifically tailored for businesses and households in the commercial district. Additionally, representatives from the Ghana Health Service will provide essential health education, focusing on workplace safety standards and public health measures that are directly relevant to the trading community and their daily operations.
“Our goal is not just facilitating dialogue , we’re empowering our communities with knowledge that can save lives and protect livelihoods,” said Bridget Mensah. “Our partnership with these vital institutions, combined with our experienced current affairs team, ensures that attendees leave not just heard, but better informed and safer.”
“This is democracy in action,” Bridget Mensah added. “When we take our microphones to the streets, we’re giving ordinary citizens extraordinary power, the power to be heard, to question their leaders, and to demand accountability.”
The Abossey Okai edition of “Happy on Wheels” promises to be particularly impactful, given the area’s significance as one of Accra’s major commercial centers. The program will address challenges facing small and medium-scale traders while celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the community.
The event will feature dedicated educational segments seamlessly woven throughout the broadcast programming. These will include comprehensive fire safety education with interactive demonstrations on fire prevention techniques, proper storage of flammable materials, and step-by-step evacuation procedures that could prove lifesaving in emergency situations. Health and safety workshops will cover basic first aid training, essential workplace safety protocols, and public health awareness initiatives designed to protect both traders and their customers.
Disaster preparedness sessions will focus on emergency response planning that addresses the unique challenges faced by both businesses and families in the commercial district. Business development segments will provide valuable information on accessing government support programs, financial literacy training, and entrepreneurship development opportunities.
The event is supported by strategic partners who are deeply committed to community development and safety. The Abossey Okai Municipal Assembly will facilitate direct dialogue between residents and local government officials, creating an unprecedented opportunity for grassroots democracy in action. Local Traditional Authorities will support community engagement efforts while ensuring that cultural preservation remains an integral part of the development discourse.
“We believe that every voice matters, and every concern deserves attention,” Mensah emphasized. “Happy on Wheels is more than a radio show; it’s a bridge between the people and their leaders, creating dialogue that can transform communities. By bringing together educational institutions, safety organizations, and government agencies, we’re creating a holistic approach to community development.”
The program will be broadcast live on Happy FM 98.9 and streamed on Facebook. There will also be live updates across all social media platforms.
