Happy FM to hold 4th virtual discussion on COVID-19 and sports with a focus on least financed sports

Ghana’s number one sports station, Happy 98.9FM presents the fourth edition of the discussion on the effects of COVID-19 and sports with a focus on the least financed sports in Ghana.

The virtual forum which is set to take place on the 25th of June,2020 from 9am to 11am will engage sports experts who will drive the discussion on sports activities such as Boxing, Athletics, Badminton, Table Tennis, among others.

The forum dubbed ‘Effects of COVID-19 on least financed sports in Ghana’ will be moderated by Happy FM’s Ohene Brenya Bampoe and GTV’s Benjamin Willie Graham and carried live on Happy FM, e.TV Ghana, Ghana Television Sports Plus (GTV Sports plus) and on all GMABC social media platforms.

Panellists expected to join this discussion include the President of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation George Lamptey, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Athletics Association Bawa Fuseini, Director of Sports at the University of Ghana Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, President of the Ghana Badminton Federation Evans Yeboah and President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association Mawuko Afadzinu.

The Director of Sports of the University of Ghana, Dr. Bella Bello Bitugu, who assumed office on October 2, 2013, is an astute sportsman whose records expand across the horizons and beyond the sports landscape.

He has played an active role in the development of sports both practically and theoretically to the point where he has served on many platforms as a member of committees both internationally and locally. His contributions to the development of sports in all facets are desirous and worth emulating.

Bawa Fuseini is the CEO of Ghana Athletics Federation and Secretary-General of the ECOWAS Athletics Region Zone II. A retired Ghanaian track and field athlete, he is currently the President of the Ghana Triathlon Federation (GTF) and has been the brain behind lots of athletics events in the country.

Evans Yeboah is the President of Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) and 3rd Vice President of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC). He is also a finance turnaround specialist with in-depth experience in the Telecommunications and Investment Banking sectors. He has a decent exposure experience in Telecommunications, Media and Technology Division in Goldman Sachs and currently the Managing Director of the second largest converged Internet Data Service Company in Ghana-managing an influence team across the sub-region.

Mawuko Afadzinu is the President of Ghana Table Tennis Federation and Head of Marketing and Communication, Stanbic Bank. Afadzinu is also President of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR), Ghana and a board member of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).

George Okoe Lamptey is the President, Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF). He led the team to win bronze at commonwealth Morocco All Africa games. Two (2) boxers qualified for the Olympic games under his tutelage, however, the Olympic games have been postponed to 2021 due to the emergence of COVID-19.

Speaking on the fourth edition of the virtual forum, Programmes Manager for Happy FM, Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah said: “We are leaving no stone unturned in the discussions around the effects of COVID-19 on sports. Apart from football, there are other sporting activities that put Ghana on the map. It is therefore important that we discuss these other sporting activities amid COVID-19”.
