Happy FM in collaboration with Donewell Insurance has officially launched its annual blood donation drive. The event is scheduled to take place on the 9th of September, 2023, at the Ayalolo Bus Terminal in Accra.

The theme for this year’s event, “Give Blood, Give Often” underscores the importance of regular blood donation to maintain sufficient and safe blood supplies for those in need. The initiative is strongly supported by key stakeholders in the medical and transportation sectors, including the National Blood Service, 37 Military Hospital Blood Bank, and the BRT Bus Terminal.

Cecilia Bruce, the Marketing and Business Development Manager of Donewell Insurance, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative stating, “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Happy FM for this crucial initiative. The annual blood donation drive aligns with our commitment to giving back to the community and saving lives. We encourage everyone to participate in this noble cause.”

Joel Sanco, Project Coordinator of the blood donation drive, also shared his thoughts on the event, stating, “As we enter another year of this remarkable collaboration between Happy 98.9 FM and Donewell Insurance, we are reminded of the positive impact these initiatives have on our society. By rallying together to ‘Give Blood and Give Often,’ we contribute to a healthier and more resilient community.”

On his part, Major Yaw Oko-Bensa-Agyekum of the 37 Military Hospital Blood Bank reiterated the importance of the exercise, “Speaking of 37 Military Hospital alone, we need about 15,000 to 18,000 units of blood yearly all things being equal. As the Bible says, the life of an animal is in the blood so Ghanaians shouldn’t regard the exercise as a mere blood donation but also a pure deed of saving lives.”

The 2023 HappyFM/Donewell Blood Donation drive hopes to draw a wide variety of participants, from passionate people looking to make a difference to community organizations, corporate entities, and governmental organizations eager to support the cause. This annual blood drive plays a critical role in keeping a stable and easily available blood supply because blood reserves frequently struggle to meet the needs of medical emergencies.

The Happy FM/Donewell Insurance Blood Donation drive has become a beacon of altruism and community engagement in Accra. The collaboration with key medical and transport partners underscores the broader community effort required to make such initiatives successful.
