Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have given their players time off following the suspension of the Ghana Premier League due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ghana has recorded seven (7) cases of the Convid-19 pandemic leading to government suspending all public gatherings for the next four (4) weeks.

Hearts and Kotoko had to play their respective match day 15 fixtures in the Ghana Premier League against King Faisal and Inter Allies on Monday 16 March, 2020, but those games have been postponed due to the outbreak.

Speaking to reporters on the club’s decision to break camp for a week, Public Relations Officer for Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, confirmed that the players have been asked to go home, “Taking into consideration the current health situation that we are in, and we don’t know what’s next so the technical team in consultation with other people took the decision for the players to be out of training for a week.

“However, we are monitoring the situation if after the one-week it is still not better then another decision will be taken because you cannot risk human lives”, he added.

Asante Kotoko also issued a statement indicating the team has suspended its activities for two (2) weeks.

“In the interest of the players’ safety following the global #COVID2019 pandemic and government decision to suspend football activities, we have given the lads a 2-week break with immediate effect”.
