Highlife music is bigger than dancehall – Arnold Asamoah Baidoo

For some time now, there have been an ongoing debate about whether Ghana’s historic Highlife genre is doing better or dead.
However, entertainment journalist Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has declared that Highlife is currently the biggest genre in Ghana and it is even bigger than Dancehall music.
According to him, about five years ago, Dancehall was in the lead but not anymore. Though Hiplife artistes are still singing, Highlife music is the biggest genre currently.
Arnold who was a panellist on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra with Doctar Cann, emphasized that the kind of music genre presenters and DJs sell to the masses has influence on them.
He congratulated presenters and DJs for doing well for Highlife music.
“You can never underestimate the power of presenters and DJ’s, we have to give the DJ’s a thumbs up, because with all the ups and downs, they are spearheading. Three to five years ago, Dancehall was leading and although Hiplife artistes are still singing, Highlife music is back to the forefront.
“Of course Highlife is the biggest. In the last year or so, if you do proper checks, the young ones are now projecting Highlife and that is a confirmation. Clearly there is no two ways about it,” Arnold said on Happy FM.
Arnold Asamoah Baidoo is a communication expert and currently the head of communications for NAM mission.
