Fred Kyei Asamoah, Member of Parliament for Offinso North, has emphasized the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in preventing cervical cancer.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Asamoah commended the initiative to introduce the HPV vaccine, highlighting that it is a “silent killer” that disproportionately affects women.

According to him, the HPV vaccine is most effective when administered before exposure to the virus, ideally by age 13, which is why vaccination is recommended for girls aged 9-14.

He stated that the vaccine is now available free of charge and urged parents to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their daughters.

He called for collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to ensure that all eligible girls are vaccinated.

Asamoah emphasized the need for parental consent and awareness about potential side effects.

He also encouraged women to get tested for HPV exposure, particularly those who may not have access to regular health check-ups.

He pledged to engage with his constituents and the education directorate to promote the vaccination program and prevent cervical cancer.

He urged all parents to take advantage of the free vaccine and protect their daughters from this preventable disease.

The Ghana government has made significant strides in making the HPV vaccine accessible to girls aged 9-14. The vaccine is part of a broader strategy to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and promote women’s health.
