National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) statistics indicate that 1,237 people lost their lives from road accidents between January and June 2024.

Most of the deaths recorded from road accidents were a result of drivers defying traffic regulations and wrongful overtaking.

According to the Head of Public Relations of NRSA, Pearl Adusu Sateckla, research has shown that 90% of drivers do not observe traffic signs and speed limits which mostly result in head on collision.

Provisional statistics from the National traffic crash and casualty unit indicate that 6,653 road accidents were recorded between January and June 2024. The accidents involved 11, 283 private, commercial vehicles, and motorbikes with 8,798 casualties.

Out of 8,798 casualties, 1,237 died and 7,561 were injured.
