Former Presidential Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has revealed his initial plans to change the state of politics in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show, with host Sefah-Danquah, the politician admitted that his careful observations made over the years, proved that many individuals are joining the political fraternity for the wrong reasons. He established these assertions based on experience gained during the early years of his political career. “Since 1988, when I touched down in Ghana, I have come into contact and worked with many experienced politicians; I have been an observer for many years and the way politics is practiced in this country needs to change.”

He noted this as his reason for joining the NPP flag bearer race, adding that the people of Ghana are beginning to perceive politics as more of an avenue for constant cash flow than an avenue to serve the nation with the well being of the Ghanaian people at heart. “We are presently in a period where the youth of today have seen politics as a goldmine they do not see it as an avenue to exhibit patriotism love and dedication.” he explained.

On August 26, 2023 the New Patriotic Party Super Delegates Conference gathered over 900 delegates nationwide to vote for five out of ten presidential aspirants; Mr Kennedy Agyapong, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Mr Joe Ghartey, Mr Kwadwo Poku, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Francis Addai Nimoh, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Mr Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. ahead of their Presidential Primaries in November 2024.

The results of the Super Delegates conference presented five aspirants, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia – 629 votes(68.15%), Kennedy Agyapong- 132 votes(14.30%), Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten – 95 votes(10.29%) Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and a tie between Francis Addai – Nimo and Boakye Agyarko (9) votes each.

Mr. Boakye Agyarko and Alan Kyeremanten have both withdrawn from the race.
