Ghana coach Otto Addo has dismissed calls for his resignation following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for AFCON 2025, marking their first absence from the tournament since 2004.

Despite intense criticism after Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Niger in their final Group F match, Otto Addo defended his commitment to the team and vowed to stay in his role.

“I’m not the person to resign,” he said firmly. “If I had that mindset, I wouldn’t have made it as a player or a coach. Knowing where I’ve come from, resignation isn’t something I consider.People shouting for me to resign can’t affect me.”

Reflecting on the match, Otto Addo acknowledged the team’s persistent defensive issues, particularly with set pieces—a weakness Niger exploited to great effect. “We were aware of their strength in set pieces, as they scored from a corner the last time we faced them. We need to defend these situations better,” he admitted.

However, the coach found some solace in the performances of debutants, who, according to him, justified their selection despite the loss. “There are positives to take, especially from the new players who stepped up and did well today,” he noted.

The defeat concluded a disappointing campaign for Ghana, who ended the qualifiers at the bottom of their group without a single win.
