IEA continues talks with political parties on 2024 presidential debate

IEA continues talks with political parties on 2024 presidential debate

A member of the IEA’s 9-member debate committee, Dr. Humphery Ayim-Darke has guaranteed that the committee will proactively engage with all political parties and candidates to secure their participation in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential debates, ensuring a comprehensive and representative discussion.

Although the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had initially declined to participate in the debate, citing insufficient prior consultation, Dr. Ayim-Darke revealed that the committee is still actively engaging in talks to persuade all eligible candidates, including the NDC, to reconsider and join the debate, ensuring a comprehensive and representative discussion.

Dr. Ayim-Darke noted that in the past, some political parties have declined the IEA’s invitation to participate in debates, but the organization has still proceeded with the event. He expressed confidence that if a similar situation arises this time, the IEA will adapt and find a way forward, allowing the debate to unfold naturally.
